Look in the mirror, California
We can all agree that one-sided, overly dramatic language does not propel our country forward. In contrast, noncommittal, disingenuous talking points do little to garner positive change either.
In a recent op-ed, Assemblyman James Gallagher shined a light on how both sides of the aisle are contributing to stalled policy through the rhetoric that is used to discuss issues.
"In the wake of the recent mass shootings, at least one of which has been connected to anti-immigrant white supremacist ideology, it is easy to continue down this road," Gallagher laments on the current deterioration of political dialogue. "The left will blame President Trump and guns. The right will react in defense. No one will look in the mirror."
Gallagher concludes, "It’s time to tone down the rhetoric. And the only people who ultimately do that is us, by no longer accepting this false, sensationalized “us vs. them” debate that only further divides us while our problems go unresolved."
Now is the time to take matters into our own hands and look in the mirror, California. Change starts with us and the way we talk about our most pressing issues.
